Biography

Caroline grew up in a Victorian House in the North West of England. As an only child, Caroline spent her days reading books and writing fantastical stories. When Caroline got older, she moved to the South East of Ireland and strongly believes that it is the most magical place on earth. Her house is nestled beneath the Blackstairs Mountains. But be warned, if you ever go there, you must tread carefully. The mountains resemble sleeping giants, and legend has it that the giants might wake up someday. If you ever find yourself in this predicament, please do not fear, as you are close to the world's oldest lighthouse and a medieval castle, so there are plenty of places to hide.

Caroline worked as “Reader in Residence” with Wexford Public Library Services for several years. She is a writer-in-residence in a primary school and a heritage expert with The Heritage Council of Ireland. Caroline is also a writer on Poetry Ireland Writers in Schools Scheme, and she is an Arts in Education Practitioner on the Teacher Artist Partnership and the BLAST programme, which are government initiatives to raise Arts Education in Ireland. Caroline has held the position of Programme Manager and curator of Wexford Literary Festival and Festival Manager of Towers and Tales International Storytelling Festival. She visits primary and secondary schools throughout Ireland, and she also delivers workshops in libraries. Caroline has appeared at some of the best literary festivals in the country. Caroline regularly facilitates creative writing classes and works as a creativity coach and mentor, helping creative people to live their dream creative life.

Eoin Colfer (Laureate na nóg 2014-2016)
“The Ghosts of Magnificent Children reads wonderfully an excellent and original voice, with shades of Neil Gaiman and Lemony Snicket.”

E.R. Murray (Mercier Press)
“Beautiful, captivating and evocative, The Ghosts of Magnificent Children is one of the most exciting manuscripts I’ve read in the last year. Characters leap from the page, and the setting and story stay with you long after you finish the final page. Not only does Caroline have buckets of talent, she also has the dedication and determination to succeed. I have no doubt that a successful career lies ahead for Caroline, as a fresh and exciting new voice in children’s fiction.”

Éilís Ní Dhuibhne (Aosdána)
“An exciting and completely original imagination is at work in this delightful book. Caroline Busher writes with verve, colour and deep compassion for people of all ages, a stunning debut.”

Abi Elphinstone (Simon and Schuster UK)
“The girl whose ribs are a birdcage - STUNNING idea. Almost Dickensian - wonderful stuff. Chapter One boasted a startlingly original character in Ginny and the promise of a plot loaded with menace.”
